Biography
David Leonardo Rencher (“D.L.”) established Rencher Law Group, P.C. (“RLG”) following a diverse career path that uniquely prepared him for success in personal injury, wrongful death, and elder abuse litigation.
Military Service & Early Education
A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mr. Rencher joined the United States Marine Corps immediately after high school. He served with distinction as an Aircraft Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician, cross-training with multiple structural fire departments at Camp Pendleton. His service during Operation Desert Storm earned him the National Service Defense Medal and a commendation for Outstanding Military Service.
While still on active duty, Mr. Rencher began his higher education journey at a junior college before transferring to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Without family financial support, he financed his education by working as a Trauma Scribe and Telemetry Technician at a local hospital.
Academic Path & Legal Education
Though initially considering medical school, Mr. Rencher’s enduring commitment to social justice ultimately guided him toward legal studies. Before fully committing to law, he briefly explored his interest in the performing arts, appearing in several theatrical productions including “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” and “Macbeth.” His dedication to advocacy prevailed, however, and he famously declined a “Power Rangers” casting call to focus on the Law School Admission Test.
Mr. Rencher graduated from UCLA with honors before attending the prestigious Hastings College of the Law. His excellence in advocacy was recognized with the Moot Court Award for “Best Oral Advocate,” and he served as a member of the Trial Team. Demonstrating his commitment to helping others succeed, he worked as a Teaching Assistant in the Legal Education Opportunity Program (LEOP), mentoring first-year law students. During this time, he also interned at the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office, where he specialized in opposing suppression motions in Driving Under the Influence (DUI) cases.
Legal Career & Specialization
Mr. Rencher began his legal career defending healthcare professionals before expanding his practice to include the defense of medical institutions, businesses, and individuals across various professional fields. This experience provided him with valuable insight into defense strategies, which now informs his approach to plaintiff representation.
Over time, Mr. Rencher has refined his litigation skills and now focuses on representing individuals and families affected by personal injury, wrongful death, and elder abuse. His unique combination of medical knowledge and prosecutorial experience has proven particularly effective in cases involving DUI-related fatalities. In 2020, this expertise led to one of California’s ten largest wrongful death settlements—a high seven-figure recovery for the family of a 69-year-old man killed by a commercial vehicle driver.
Client Commitment
Clients of Rencher Law Group benefit from Mr. Rencher’s multifaceted experience, tenacity, and unwavering dedication to justice. His background in emergency medicine, coupled with his legal acumen, enables him to comprehensively evaluate and powerfully advocate for those who have suffered injuries or lost loved ones due to others’ negligence.
